Artist's Comments
18th August 2008
A brief note before the storm, if you don't read the things I'm about to explain here, you will not receive a dignified response. I thank everybody for all the faves and comments I've had on this (the good and the bad) but my friend *Loser-Kid05 asked me if the stamp was really worth all this trouble, and I can honestly say I don't know anymore. I've started getting comments on my profile page since I disabled them here, one doing the typical "fuck you, have a wonderful day ^-^" childish thing, and I dunno about you guys but I don't use the veil of anonymity people seem to think they can hide under when they insult people for no reason, so I took it really personally. What have I done to that random kid for them to just say "fuck you"? My response probably hasn't helped but whatever I guess. You're rude to me I'll be rude to you. Oh and if you're reading this, PS, "FUCK YOU" isn't an opinion, it's a statement. Sorry, I digress. Ok, here's the tl;dr, don't skip it if you're getting offended by the stamp, just incase I've covered what you're going to rant about at me. It's AXEL and ROXAS. Not AKUROKU. - Why use their Japanese slashname? If you wanted a cute nickname, (like someone has suggested) wouldn't AxRox be better? It's HOWL. Hot HAURU. - Howl's Moving Castle was a British novel before a Studio Ghibli production, it's understandable if you've seen the animation first however they even say "HOWL" in it, the Japanese can't help the fact that they don't have L in their alphabet. It's LIGHT. Not RAITO. - Before you go snarky on me, yes, I've no idea on this one. I added it in because somebody asked me to. Personally though I think it depends on how the name is written in the original manga, if it's kanji it's Raito, if it's katakana then surely it's supposed to be foreignised (have I just made that word up? I'll probably keep using it anyway) into Light? But I don't know. I hate Death Note either way haha. It's CUTE. Not KAWAII. - I like not adding random Japanese words into my conversations with intellectual people. If it's between you and your close friends then feel free to say whatever you like! But I'd never get dragged into spouting "KAWAII" wherever I went, even when I WAS into manga/anime/cons. Your name is LISA. Not RIISA-CHAN. - This one was also brought up by somebody else, but I agree on the sole basis that people think they will get more pageviews or look cooler if their name has been foreignised. It (hopefully, you never know with dA thesedays) will not make you look any cooler or get you any more pageviews. Japan is NOT the coolest place on Earth. - It's only one of them. Every country has it's own problems and downsides (even Japan) but also it's good sides, sights, traits, and whatnot. Don't just set your sights on a place because of one aspect like "MANGA IS MADE THERE" or something like that! COSPLAYING in public is lame. - Hold on a second before you slay me for this one please. Cons and parties and events are fantastic places to show off your love of a character, but just by yourself walking through a city will probably look like straight-up attention whoring and may get you into trouble (meaning beat up or something). If you've worked hard on an outfit or do it for a living, then by all means go off and flaunt your gear! I'm just saying I wouldn't want people doing it alone, do it at a con/party where you know it'll be appreciated by people into the same things as you! The unfamiliar public aren't acceptive of new things all the time, I'm only saying from experience that if you want to look different, be prepared to be put down by idiotic non-appreciative wankers. Ok? If you're prepared for that, then good luck. Watching anime does NOT teach you Japanese. - Sick of repeating myself on this one really, but I guess I have to. It does teach you random phrases and basic knowledge, yes. But it will not teach you everything you need to know or proper pronounciational techniques or anything like that. Remember a lot of things are fan-subbed, which aren't always exactly reliable. If you are under 16 you are NO EXCEPTION. - I honestly don't know why I added this in. For my sake: ignore please. I'd get rid of it but people will whine at me... Again. Copying a manga style does NOT make you a manga artist. - Another longer explaination needed on this one. If you constantly reference from one manga artist's style for years on end and do not attempt to improve or incorporate your own style into your art, then you're not going to get anywhere are you? Get influences from many styles by the greats and then put them on paper and don't be afraid to change things! Don't reference things for the rest of your life, be original! That's the way to go! It may take longer to get you recognised if you don't trace Naruto (or other populars) poses, but I'm sure you'd all agree it'd be better to be popular for the right reasons and not the worst (and end up on ED You are not Japanese. - And if you are, just ignore that one plzkthx. If you think speaking in Japanese makes you sound cool... THINK AGAIN. - There's nothing wrong with your native language. Don't add random "DESU" "CHAN" "NYA" words in there because you think you'll sound oh-so-intelligent and cool because you know how to say "am" (well, the word you put at the end of an "I am/he is/she is/whatever" sentence), "miss/mr/mrs", and an onomatopoeic cat noise in Japanese. Or insults. There's nothing more childish than being able to insult somebody in another language. BLUE NOTE VERSION IS HERE: [link] Just for the more easily offended So yeah, if you leave a nice polite argument I'll be more than happy to respond in whatever manner you've commented in, meaning if you're rude, I'll be rude, and if you're adult about it, I'll be adult about it. It works both ways. Like I said, I take everything personally and don't insult people like a child unless they've done something that deserves it. Oh and my opinion on hiding comments? I will never do so, if you're rude, I'll let everybody see what a dick you are. I also salute ED and deviantartsnark on all the fine lulz they're providing, douches and attention-whores should be shown for who they really are. Lastly, comments are now enabled again. I can't promise I'll reply to every single one but I'll sure as hell try to keep up with it. Thanks everyone! |
